Ownership decided by a setting, and ownership granted outright
On a private Leonardo.Ai generation the user keeps full ownership and copyright, while public content carries worldwide perpetual rights for the vendor. Stability's licence says you own any outputs, to the extent applicable law permits. As of 2026-09-22.
| The question | Leonardo.Ai | Stable Video Diffusion |
|---|---|---|
| What decides the answer | Whether the generation was private | Nothing; it is stated once |
| The vendor's retained rights | Broad, over public content | None stated |
| Form of the sentence | Two clauses, one condition | A grant with a legal hedge |
| What a production records | Privacy setting, per clip | Nothing extra |
Inclusion rule. Two vendors whose published answers in one column point in different directions, or sit far enough apart that a reader choosing between them would decide differently. Order. The vendor named first in the heading is the one whose wording is quoted first.
1One answer per clip, or one answer per licence
The first row decides ownership file by file, using a setting inside the product. The second decides it once, in a document, for everything generated under it.
For a single creator the difference is small. For a team with freelancers and a shared account it is the difference between a policy and a per-clip audit, and audits of settings nobody logged do not go well.
2Broad retained rights against none
Worldwide, perpetual rights to use, copy, adapt, modify, publish and create derivative works is a long list, and on the first row it applies to public generations. The second row states no retained rights at all.
Both positions are defensible for the products they belong to. A platform that displays user work needs the first; a licence handed out with model weights has no gallery to operate.
3The hedge and the toggle are different kinds of limit
To the extent permitted by applicable law limits what the sentence can deliver, and it limits it honestly, because copyright in machine output is unsettled. A privacy setting limits which sentence applies at all.
A reader can plan around the first by asking counsel one question. Planning around the second means changing how a team works, which is a larger ask and the reason this pair is worth setting side by side.
4A third set of terms on the same question
| The question | SceneMixer | Source |
|---|---|---|
| What the user holds | Output is the user's to the extent the law allows, royalty-free and commercial use included, and output made with free credits counts as paid for | SceneMixer, rights guide |
| What a production owns | The guide states that the human-authored layers are what a production owns, naming the script, the selection and arrangement of shots and substantive edits | SceneMixer, compliance guide |
Inclusion rule. SceneMixer's own published wording on the column this pair was chosen for. Order. The sentence closest to the column first.
Its full row is on the SceneMixer entry.

5Both documents
The first column comes from the help centre answer at leonardo.ai, read 2026-09-22; the second from the community licence at stability.ai, read 2026-09-22. Each vendor’s full row is on Leonardo.Ai and Stable Video Diffusion, and the column being compared is described on what is owned. A comparison of wording is not legal advice. Other pairs: Higgsfield and Hailuo, Fliki and SceneMixer.
