A community licence, which is a supplier's own document wearing open clothes
A community licence is a supplier's own agreement published alongside model weights. It borrows the shape of an open licence and adds conditions of its own, so it has to be read in full rather than recognised by name. As of 2026-09-22.
| Question | What the phrase answers |
|---|---|
| Published with the weights | Shared with permissive licences |
| No account or subscription | Shared |
| Conditions unique to the supplier | Where it diverges, and the part to read |
| Reviewed text a legal team knows | Not shared: each one is bespoke |
Inclusion rule. Phrases that appear in more than one vendor's permissions documents and that change what a sentence means. A phrase used by a single vendor in a single clause is described on that vendor's own page instead. Order. Reading order: where you meet it, then what it settles, then what it does not.
1Recognition is the value a named licence has
The practical benefit of a standard permissive licence is that somebody has already read it. A community licence forfeits that: the name tells a reader nothing about the conditions inside, and two of them may share no terms at all.
That is not an argument against them. Attaching a condition is how a company funds model work while letting small users in for nothing, and it is a reasonable trade for both sides.
2The conditions worth locating first
Thresholds, territory and field-of-use restrictions, in that order. Each of them can remove the grant for a particular reader while leaving it intact for everybody else, which makes them invisible in any summary.
A threshold is the one that changes with time rather than with facts. A licence that fits a studio today can stop fitting after a good year, with nobody editing the document.
3What re-reading costs, and when to do it
These files are versioned, and a new model release often ships a new licence. Pinning the version of the weights in use, and the version of the licence beside it, is the record that makes a later question answerable.
A fine-tuned or adapted model usually inherits the original conditions. That inheritance is easy to forget once the artefact in hand is a checkpoint rather than a download page.
4From the making side
Alongside the terms behind “Community licence”, SceneMixer's guides describe the work itself this way:

You can recomposite with different end-card text, and in step-by-step mode you can reshoot individual segments. The finished file can also be downloaded and shared with a link.

5Where the sourced wording is
A word page, not an entry in the register: nothing above is attributed to any vendor and nothing above is legal advice. The quoted clauses are on commercial use, the column this phrase turns up in is commercial use from, and the reading rules are on the reading page. Next words: Permissive licence, Monthly active users, Revenue threshold.
